Residential renovation

Formaggino House is the renovation of a mid-20th-century holiday residence, transformed to meet contemporary standards of comfort, functionality and accessibility while preserving the identity of the existing building. The project reinterprets a property altered over time and affected by prolonged lack of maintenance, giving it a new architectural character through a comprehensive reorganisation of its spaces.

At ground floor, the original fragmented layout is replaced by a large open-plan living and kitchen area, creating a more fluid and flexible space for everyday life. Service areas are redesigned and an elevator is introduced to improve accessibility and connect the two levels of the house.

The first floor is reorganised around three bedrooms and a new shared lounge and breakfast area, with redesigned bathrooms and a more efficient distribution aimed at improving privacy, comfort and usability.

The intervention extends beyond the interiors: the exterior architecture is simplified and redefined to move away from the existing geometries and give the house a cleaner, more contemporary identity. The result is a renewed residence where existing architecture and new interventions coexist through a restrained, functional and timeless design approach.
